Knitted Brioche Rib Primer

Brioche (lost stitch) Rib in two colors makes a stunning, vertical stripe, reversible cowl that is stretchy and quick. This bandana style cowl (can also be used as a headband) will teach you how to do these vertical stripes in the round and flat. We will only use one color per row so even novice knitters need not fret . The pattern and 100g of wool yarn will be included.
Students should bring US 7, 16” circular needles, plus basic knitting notions.
Fixing Knitting Mistakes

Required Skills: Knitting and purling
New Techniques: Counting rows and stitches, finding gauge, fixing common mistakes such as dropped stitches and extra yarn overs by tinking (knitting backwards), vertical laddering, and unraveling.
Gain confidence in your knitting skills! Learn to identify and correct mistakes in your work. In the first half of this class, you will discover and practice three techniques to fixing your mistakes, identify common mistakes, and learn the best ways to fix those mistakes. We will have a fun time practicing the techniques on non-critical swatches. The second half of class, bring in your WIPs (works in progress) and we will troubleshoot mistakes you may have on your current projects.
Homework: Using a light or medium colored, smooth worsted weight yarn (no fuzz or mohair) and a US size 9 or 10 needle, work 2 swatches casting on 20 sts for each swatch. Work one swatch in garter stitch: K each row. Work the other swatch in stockinette stitch: K odd rows, P even rows. Work each swatch for about 3-4 inches. Don’t worry about mistakes; bring them as is. Do no bind off. Instead, transfer each swatch to a stitch holder. Please remember to bring the needles you used to stitch your swatches as well as a small crochet hook (around a US size F: 3.75mm).
Materials: Knit swatches from homework in light or medium colored, smooth worsted weight yarn (#4)

Pin Loom Weaving

Explore weaving on the Kiss Looms square, triangle, and hexagon weaving looms. Many sizes are available to try out during the class. You will learn how to weave on each type of loom and seaming techniques to make them into larger projects, such as pillows, scarves, blankets, bowls and shawls. Yarn and looms will be available during the class. Looms will be available for purchase after the class.
Simple Charming Sheep

Create sheep and flowers using felt patterns and a couple embroidery stitches. This cute piece will look charming adoring your table or any other special place.
You pick the colors for your background, your sheep, and your flowers. All you need to know is how to thread a needle. If you have never embroidered I will furnish instructions and a practice piece, along with patterns, felt, embroidery thread, and of course a needle. You will go home with an addition to your fiber herd.
Tunisian Crochet

Toe-Up, Two-At-A-Time Socks

Hand-knit socks are beyond comparison! Why do them Toe-Up? Why make them Two-At-A-Time? Come to class and learn all the whys and hows. This is one of Bex’s most popular classes! No, you will not finish a pair of socks in class… but you will have all of the techniques down to size socks for anyone and the confidence to finish on your own. You only need to know how to knit and purl. Needles, choice of yarns and pattern provided. Bring basic knitting notions including lock stitch markers, scissors, tape measure, calculator and pencil.
Making a Sweater that Fits

Knitters: Knitting, purling, basic increasing and decreasing
Crocheters: Foundation crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, basic increasing and decreasing.
New Techniques: Making and measuring a gauge swatch, taking your measurements, identifying the best fit in a pattern, and more.
Whether you knit or crochet, the process for getting the right fit in a garment is the same. Let’s explore the elements that determine the final size of your sweater. We will start with a basic pattern and determine the right size to follow by taking personal measurements, making and reading a swatch, and adjusting needles and hooks for a perfect fit.
Note: Grab all of your stitchy friends because this fun workshop brings together our knitting and crochet friends!
Homework: If desired, choose one of the patterns below or choose one of your own. Using the yarn you intend to use for the sweater, make a 4”x4” gauge swatch as described in the pattern. Bring your blocked swatch to class.

Rectangle Loom Weaving

Materials Provided 4″ × 19″ rectangle loom and locker hook that is yours to take home after class.
Supplies Needed: Please bring two colors of heavier worsted weight yarn, approximately 100 yards each and a pair of scissors. Have yarn balled and ready to use (no hanks).
Weave beautiful scarves on the adjustable Kiss Loom Rectangle Weaving Loom. In this class you will receive the 4″×19″ rectangle and learn how to weave on the loom. You will learn how to change colors, seam panels and adjust the loom so that you can weave various lengths, including how to use it as a square pin loom! The rectangle is perfect for worsted and heavy worsted weight yarns. This is a very versatile loom with many applications, such as scarves, cowls, table runners and blanket panels. You don’t have to be an expert to learn to weave on our rectangle looms. If you wish to trade up to a larger size loom stop by the booth after class.

Learning to Twine

Twining is an ancient craft that has been done basically the same way throughout time. Learn how to weave a beautiful rag rug or place mats without the expense of buying a loom. I will show you how to use up those leftover scraps of material or yarn from prior projects, worn out jeans, or even a bed sheet that somehow got a hole in it. After completing this class project you will have a sample that can be used as a hot pad to adorn your table. The twining frame is yours to keep. All materials will be furnished, including handouts.
Mosaics for Beginners

Mosaic Knitting is a form of slip stitch knitting and uses two colors to build the rows of the pattern. Barbara Walker first coined the phrase mosaic as most of the patterns are based on ancient geometric designs often found in ancient glass or ceramic tiles or architectural mosaics.
Students will learn the basics of mosaic knitting, learn to read a chart and knit some samples of mosaic knitting. Examples of different projects will be available during class.
Handouts and notes will include how to plan colors for a project.
How to read patterns and diagrams related to mosaics.
Discussion of various styles of patterns and books available in today’s marketplace.
Web sites, reference books and guides will be outlined.
Students should bring several balls of varied weight yarn. Worsted and DK work well. Remember to have strong contrasting light and dark colors to knit the samples. Straight or cable needles can be used.

Continuous Strand Weaving Beyond the Basics: 2 Colors

Have you already taken the basic Continuous Strand Weaving class and have the technique down? Ready for the next step in making your shawls and blankets POP and sell? Using 2 colors to create twills, strips, checks and log cabin designs is really not difficult in CSW. Come learn some fun new ways to weave on these unique looms. If you already have a square (washcloth, convertible 12” or 18”) travel size frame loom (no 6” Mini Mods) bring it along (let Bex know). Otherwise, Bex will provide the loom, yarns and tools for your project in class.
Zoom Loom Weaving

Students should bring 3 – 4 small balls of varied weight yarn to warp the loom to practice. Worsted, DK work well. Each ball needs to be at least 10 yds in length. All items to use with the loom are included in the loom kit.
Sock Heel Workshop

Students will learn how to knit socks that fit with an emphasis on different sock heel options. We will cover how to measure your feet and how your arch affects the fit of your socks. Students will receive a class handout that will include detailed information about different types of heels, how to modify them, worksheets to customize fit, and tips and tricks for sock knitting. I will have samples of different types of heels.

This class is intended for students who are intermediate knitters and have a basic understanding of sock construction.
You are welcome to bring your socks for advice and troubleshooting.

Introduction to Natural Dyes

Mother Nature is gracious enough to lay a color palette right outside our windows. We will explore some of what she has to offer, giving you the courage to go out and sample more.

Beginning Drop Spinning

A must have class about YOUR knitting! Topics covered include but are never limited to: holding the yarn, stitch structure, gauge, hand, fiber/needle choices, reading patterns and charts, adjusting/ changing patterns, substituting yarns, cast-on/bind-off/side edges, correcting mistakes, random historic and cultural facts….. Learn how to knit forward and backwards and with both hands at the same time. Create the best style for you to knit- quickly, comfortably and with confidence. Whether you want to learn the easiest way for YOU, are left handed trying to knit in a right handed world, knit English style and want to learn Continental or just want to make your knitting faster and more ergonomic, this is a great class for you. Knitters of all levels are welcome.
Materials included in class cost are handout, 50g of wool yarn and a special notion.

Top Down Sock Construction

Handmade seamless socks are so cozy! Learn the basics of sock construction so you can have an endless supply for yourself! In this class, we will make a short version of a sock so we will have time to practice all the techniques involved in creating a pair. You will learn the parts of a sock, working cuff down in the round, turning the heel, working the gusset, shaping the toe, the kitchener stitch, and tips on sizing your socks. Experienced sock knitters will unlock the secrets (math) to sock construction so you can make any size sock in any yarn you want!
Bring Materials: 1 ball of smooth worsted weight yarn in a solid or semi-solid color
US size 9 (5.5mm): 2 sets of circular needles, any length (to work in the round on 2 circulars)
or a set of interchangeable needles

Learning to crochet socks is so much fun. You don’t need many supplies and the best part is that it’s a portable project. You can crochet socks almost anywhere. Socks can be intimidating at first but they are not hard. Each step will be explained in detail and I will be there to help throughout the process until you feel comfortable. We will create a foot template just for you to help with that perfect fit. Handouts and yarn will be provided. Students must know basic stitches and how to read a simple pattern. You will take home a sock as a sample. Student to bring a size D and E hook and pencil or pen. This is not a beginning crochet class.
Beginning Tatting

In this class, students will learn over-hitch and under-hitch knots to create the double stitch. Then students will continue to make chains and rings, the basics of tatting. Students will learn a basic edging and how to make a butterfly.
Supplies are included: 1 tatting shuttle and two colors of cotton thread.
